Alejandra Iglesias was born in Santiago, Chile. Her career as a professional dancer seemed predetermined as she was so obviously gifted with a feeling for music and rhythm. But Dinky soon proved to be a musical allrounder. In the midst of the ebullient Chilean music scene of the early 90s she met local heroes like Ricardo Villalobos, Atom Heart or Dandy Jack: the threesome mainly responsible for the revolution of electronic music in Chile.
The fresh energy of the young movement made such a big impression on her that she taught herself to mix records and was soon appearing at desert raves. With the same passion and determination she soon conquered the Big Apple, where she’d been given a scholarship at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. But her heart was already set on electronic music – in no time she immersed herself in the city’s vital underground scene of the day and became a regular behind the decks of some of the most famous clubs.
In 2000, just 23 years old and armed with only an MPC 2000, she turned out her first productions that in the course of the following years would be released on labels like Traum Schallplatten, Sonic Groove or Carpark. In 2003 Dinky moved to Berlin where she found herself surrounded by a lively metropolis populated by international musicians. In this inspiring environment Dinky released her 2005 hit „ Acid In My Fridge“ on Cocoon Recordings and later that year launched her own label „Horizontal“.
In 2006 she landed a residency at the infamous Cocoon parties on Ibiza. Today she’s a resident in Berlin’s „Panoramabar“ and plays renowned clubs or festivals like Sonne Mond Sterne or Sónar - when she’s not on tour, she’s in the studio. Dinky’s been part of the Cocon booking roster since 2009.
