Chris Tietjen

Chris Tietjen will be playing in Sopron / Hungary tomorrow. As there is already a lot of excitement in the air, the promoters conducted a nice interview, introducing Chris who is also very excited to set the moods and grooves for an intense night.

Hello Chris! What are you working on at the moment? We hear you are in the studio with Reboot and Markus Fix?

Thats right! I have produced a track with Reboot and also one with Ricardo Villalobos which we want to release on one EP. Aside from that, I'm in the studio with Markus Fix almost every week, working on new projects. I also just mixed the "Sieben", my annual In-House Mix-Compilation which will be available on Cocoon Recordings by the end of March. And last but not least, there will be a new event series of mine in the Cocoonclub Lounge, called "HE!". Every two months, I invite my favourite artists and will be a good host. So you can see, there's a lot in the pipeline for 2012 – let the year begin!

What is the most important thing for you when you play?

The most important thing for me, especially as a vinyl DJ, is the equipment. An artist is only as good as the tools he can work with. But almost as important is a good atmosphere. The vibe between the audience and me is a key element.

How do you like the global Techno scene at the moment and what would you change?

I think we kind of hit a wall – musically. Most DJs only care about the "hands in the air" feeling but forget that we want to deliver danceable music which shouldn't be butchered beyond recognition with effects. And just that also reflects in many productions nowadays. I experience a lot of parties lately, which are musically built for the audience to go wild on the breaks with god knows how many filters, and when the break is over – everybody just stands there like all dressed up with nowhere to go.

What did you hear about the Hungarian Techno and House scene?

To be honest – not a lot. A friend of mine played at the Korona Club in Kecel and seemed to be having a lot of fun there. So I'm very excited to see what awaits me at your party!

Your next gig in Hungary is at the Secret Fusion in Sopron. The two DJs who do the party still play only vinyl. How long do you think they will still be able to do this?

I still do believe in vinyl and I think that, especially since there are so many laptop DJs nowadays, playing vinyl is still something special for the audience. Many times, people come up to me and tell me how great it is that I still play vinyl. That being said is reason enough for me to believe that it's far away from being dead.

You are on the road a lot, in which city – besides Frankfurt – would you like to live?

I think Amsterdam, London and Berlin are cities where I could stay for longer and maybe even live there.

What kind of music do you listen to when you're at home or relaxing?

I really like to listen to Funk music like "The Gap", but I also like some really relaxing stuff like Sade, Air or The XX. I'm also a huge fan of the last Pulshar album on Desolat, which is already an evergreen for me.

What would you do if you had not taken the DJ / Producer path?

Since I came in the scene when I was about 15 years old, I never really thought about different turns that my life could have taken. Today, I can say that I really like to cook and to be creative in front of the stove as well.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

To be honest, I can't say that. Life is full of possibilities so for me, and for me, it would be somehow pointless to know where I will be in 20 years.

The fans in Sopron are waiting for you – any message?

Put on your dancing shoes!!!

Thank you for the interview and see you on February 11th in Sopron!
