Cocoon Artist Booking introduces a new interview & podcast series called "In The Spotlight": Every month we have a little chit-chat with an artist from our booking roster who adds an exclusive mix on top, available for download at Soundcloud. We start the series with our French artist hailing from Paris: DJ W!LD
2011 just came to an end. How's your review of it?
Great, I'm really happy, it was an awesome year! My first album "Palace" was released, I made some EPs on Robsoul, Magnetic, Soweso, Off, Adult Only and recently on Luna Records and I had a very good season in Ibiza with Circoloco at DC10. There were also a lot of good festivals with great people and a lot of energy (e.g. SonneMondSterne, Electrobeach, Movement Italy, Time Warp Italy, Creamfields Peru etc.). Additionally, I played my first gigs in Japan with Circoloco, at Fabric and at Panorama Bar.
So, 2012 has just started – can you tell us something about your plans and projects for the upcoming year?
Well, I'm planning to do a lot of releases on my label 'W' and remixes of my first album "Palace" by DJ Sneak, Kerri Chandler, Art Department, Radio Slave, Jay Haze, Chris Carrier, Fries & Bridges, Sis, Gauthier DM and on Catwash Records. There are also some collaborations on tracks in the pipeline, with Sammy Dee, Shaun Reeves, Chris Carrier, Hector Moralez and Kova Rea.
So you see, the list is long. It’s great to have so many artists with their different styles, so that it sounds like something new.
There's also a new album coming on Cabin Fever, which I have been producing during the winter. I’m very happy that this is finished now, and I’m very proud of it, it’s a little bit different than "Palace", but it’s still very much based on my style.
I’m really looking forward to a great new season with Cocoon and Circoloco this summer, it’s always great to be in Ibiza and I hope I will have great gigs this year, just like in 2011.
What inspired you for your upcoming album "Dirty" on Cabin Fever?
I’m really into that NY sound from the 90s, Chicago and Detroit, but I also used lots of voices and sounds that I had sampled all around during my travels last year.
Will it be a sequel of "Palace" or did you try new things on this one?
Yes, it's a sequel, but I would say it's more personal. The 303, 808 and 909 are really the main machines I used on that. So, it's going one step further, following what I feel and play right now, but also based on what I always loved: deep, dark, acid, sexy...
