Catharsis is Sven Väth's first solo album in nearly two decades — and the 50th release on Cocoon Recordings. Produced together with Gregor Tresher, the record arrived on 25 February 2022 as a musical autobiography. Thirteen tracks. Each one a fragment of a life lived between booths, airports, oceans and dancefloors.
The album emerged from stillness. When the world paused, Sven did too. What followed were nights of dancing in his own home, mystic pauses, time to reflect. Travels remembered. People remembered. Sounds collected over decades, finally finding their voice.
From the spectral opening of What I Used To Play through the ritual pulse of Butoh and Feiern, towards the meditative stillness of The Cranes Of Gangtey Valley and the closing Panta Rhei — everything flows. Nothing stays the same. A conversation between body and soul. The dancefloor as a place of becoming.
Catharsis is not a return. It is an arrival.
